How to design a bridge house

Welcome to design a dwelling - volume 2. Im Doug Patt. This is the series where we pick a site and put a house on it. Other than a medieval anomaly or a draw bridge with a small structure for operation its not very likely youll see a house built on a bridge any time soon. With that in mind this bridge site at the Grand Canyon is perfect for a house. Any building placed on this structure would be able to take advantage of the thrilling view and if designed properly the vista would be completely unobstructed. So, I did some thinking about the building and I like the analogy of creating a home that is something like a cork to a wine bottle. In simple terms just as a cork is round and fits the round neck of a bottle, the house would be rectangular, fitting the rectangular cut out shape of the structure. As noted in previous episodes, Im always more inclined to go modern and this site lends itself to that aesthetic. To get an idea of how big this house is going to be we can gauge the scale of the photo from the people on the bridge. The first design I completed followed my original sketch fairly closely. The configuration stayed pretty true the idea of a rectangular shape with simple cut outs and geometrical forms for openings and windows. However, the design fails to take any real advantage the most important factor of the site has to offer, the view. Chicken Coop Construction Design Tips

Chicken coop construction designs should begin with your chicken. It is vital to make important considerations on making your chicken comfortable, safe, and healthy before building them a home to live.

Chicken have special needs that one should address when constructing them a chicken coop to stay in. Damp weather can keep the chicken in distress while the same thing can happen when the weather is too hot. Always consider this when making a design for constructing a chicken coop where proper ventilation is very important.

The coop construction design from the roof down to the floor must always prioritize the goal of addressing the chicken needs. One must also incorporate on the construction design on how to make the coop well sanitized and easy to clean.

While it is optional to build a perch for the chickens, many recommend that there should be a perch in your chicken coop. This is usually where the chickens like to leave their droppings hence placing a tray underneath is also wise for easy collection of the chicken droppings. This will provide the chicken a special place to leave their droppings which helps maintain the cleanliness of their home.

It is important to provide a nest for the hens to lay their eggs. It must be deep enough, at least 4 inches deep to provide them a more comfortable place to keep their eggs. Hens are able to produce more eggs when you provide them comfort and security.

There are essential factors that you should consider when making your construction design to keep the chicken comfortable. The chicken will need easy access for fresh water to drink. You should provide them a big water feeder that can hold at least a gallon of water as their water supply. 

You may consider providing light to the hens to keep them laying eggs all year round thus you should consider providing electricity to the chicken coop. You can also place automatic dispenser that will provide the chicken specific amount of foods daily. There are automatic food dispensers that you can hang on the walls. This is most useful when you are away for a few days without having to worry about feeding the chicken.

The coop design must also ensure that the house of the chicken is secure from predatory attacks. You can bury chicken wires under the ground deep enough that will keep rodents and other animals from digging within the perimeter area of the chicken coop.

You can also consider placing food storage near the coop for easy handling and feeding the chickens. You can use metal garbage cans or bins with tight lids to keep the feeds close by the chicken coop.

You may also keep a stock of straw for ready availability to place on the nest boxes when necessary to ensure that the hens can safely keep their eggs on the nest without the risk of cracking.  

Always keep cleaning tools nearby in order to easily clean the coop such as a rake or broom to keep the coop and its surroundings clean to be free from dirt and bacteria that can bring illness to the chickens.
