LARGE WILDLIFE POND AND DECKING by PONDGURU

Large pond constructed at Darras Hall, Ponteland, Northumberland. Pond was replaced with bigger wildlife pond with planting shelves and under-liner drainage with bleed pipe to prevent groundwater build up under liner. All amphibians and invertebrates were caught and removed to a sectional pond for safe housing, then released back to the completed pond. Neglected drainage ditch at bottom of garden was dug out to lower the level and prevent flooding. New bridges were installed for better access over ditch. All marginal pond plants were replaced in or around the pond to aid naturalisation and habitat. The area will regenerate well in Spring as although the digger churned up some of the land, the area was previously populated with wild flowers and moisture loving plants which had already flowered and seeded. Large walkways and a viewing platform were installed for good (and disabled) access as the garden is visited by conservation and wildlife groups. www.pondguru.co.uk
