Macedonia President: Macedonians with Bulgarian Consciousness Wont Face Pressure 5 March 2008, Wednesday The Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski declared Wednesday that there would be no pressure against Macedonian citizens with Bulgarian consciousness. Crvenkovski had a meeting with Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov in the southwest Bulgarian town of Sandanski. "Let us overcome the stereotypes from the past and the rhetoric, which causes aggression", Parvanov stated in turn calling for a full opening of the two countries towards each other. The two presidents laid wreaths at the monument of Yane Sandanski, a Bulgarian revolutionary from Macedonia, in the town of Melnik in southwest Bulgaria. There were met by over a hundred sympathizers of the VMRO party, the successor of the Internal Macedonian and Thracian Revolutionary Organization founded in 1893. The rally raised slogans calling for protecting the rights of the people with Bulgarian self-consciousness in Macedonia. "There are past cases that create the impression that there is pressure against those Macedonians that declare themselves Bulgarian", President Parvanov said expressing his hope that all institutions in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) would follow the statement of President Crvenkovski.
